Just a little of this...a little of that kinda crap....Nothing but Poo...Pourri.
Whew! Weekends really fly by! Especially when you're running, going, doing, and then sitting glued to a laptop computer for hours....
Saturday I had to work...bleh. Then we grabbed some lunch at
Portillos and headed off to see the new
X-Files movie at the theater.
It was pretty good. Not entirely what die-hard fans were expecting, I think, but I enjoyed it. I had no huge expectations, so for me it was very interesting, and had that thriller-edge. (I never watched the TV series, due to working days and attending college full-time nights back when it was on...but have seen a few DVD's of the series). I do agree in one respect...the romantic tension between Scully & Mulder could've been ramped up a few notches.
Then the rest of the weekend was pretty much spent going to church, running errands, shopping, and sitting taking online classes for adoption & parenting.
There are 5 classes in all. We each spent about 4-5 hours on Saturday and 4 hour Sunday, completing 4 of them. The final one we need to complete within a week is huge. It has 20 chapters or sections. They rated it a 2-hour class, but I forsee it taking a good 3-4 hours.
Whew! Alot of the material so far was dealing with becoming a Multi-Cultural family and being a "Conspicuous family" (because our child will be a noticeably different ethnicity than us) which I don't think will be a big problem for us...I'm American, he's Canadian and we are very open-minded/hearted and embrace diversity. We look forward to learning more about and exploring our child's culture. The rest of the material was based upon what to expect or how to deal with various medical, emotional, behavorial and developmental issues seen in children who've been in an orphanage and/or foster care. Very interesting, informative, and at times a bit over-whelming (all that crammed in a two hour online class).
Tried a Burger King veggie burger yesterday. OMG It was awful. I normally never eat at BK. It's probably been 20+ years since I've ever been to one. I don't like the liquid-smoke fakey-taste of charbroiled burgers....and their food has the highest fat/calories of all fast food places. BUT--We were on the run Sunday and needed to grab quick lunch. I'd heard they have a veggie burger so I agreed to go and try it.
It was horrid. I choked down about 3 bites of it and had to pitch it. Then I read
the nutrition info---Veggie doesn't equal healthy! With cheese & Mayo - it is 470 Calories, and 20 grams of Fat and 1320 grams of Sodium!!! Without either it is 340 Calories, 8 grams of Fat and 1030 grams of Sodium! OMG! I would've done better eating a Taco Bell Fresco taco at 150 Calories, 8 grams of Fat, and 370 grams of Sodium or another item from their
Fresco menu. Live and learn....
My mom called and my dad had to go into the hospital yesterday. He's going to have a little procedure, and will be home in a couple days. It's nothing urgent....just a recurring, irritating, frustrating problem with his prostate (no cancer, Thank GOD). He had this same procedure 3 months ago...and has been told to stay home, rest, take it easy and now he's having it again--starting all over. I think he got too antsy and got out and did too much walking...and now he's doomed to another 8 weeks on the couch. Poor Dad.
Mr. Hottie left for Mexico on business today. He'll be back Wednesday nite, and then Thursday afternoon we're flying to Cincinnati to spend the weekend with my parents. I've not seen them since Easter. I can't wait to get there and see everyone and spend time with them.
My sis & fam are recovering pretty well from their bad car accident, by the way. Their van was totalled after all, and they're currently searching for a replacement. My neice is struggling with continuing to learn to drive and feeling so bad about the accident. Now my poor Dad will be laid up for awhile longer. Whew. My whole family needs some good luck, and healing vibes...real soon!!
Back to work for me today....Blechhh!
How was your weekend? Did you see any good movies? Learn anything new?
